Press release: First they ignore you...

Referring to the recent statement from the Electoral Commission, Mike Smith, Branch Chairman told a Members’ meeting:

“A much wiser man than me once said ‘First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they attack you… and then you win.’

Well, they ignored us for years and we didn’t go away.
They laughed at us – “cranks and gadflies” – and we turned it to our advantage.

Now they are attacking us – and we are not going away!

It’s not just the Tories but the whole political establishment that is running scared of our ever-growing influence. It’s the old adage; If you can’t counter the arguments, attack the advocates.

Of course, the funding problem is a serious setback, but we have had setbacks before and each time we have survived and I believe we will come through this stronger than ever.

The public will see us as a David fighting the Goliath of the political establishment and we all know of the traditional British support for the underdog.

We may have to go back to the sling-shot age but we will fight them with our pens, we will fight them with our shoe leather and, above all, we will fight them with our facts.

We will never surrender and we will win.
The days of British membership of the European Union are numbered. We just do not know that number yet.”

Members went on to plan for the forthcoming City Council elections when their theme will be Independence for all levels of Government.
