UKIP members from Gloucestershire were in Newport on 4th April to support Neil Hamilton in the Newport West by-election. South West Chairman Richard Ford, Brian Cooke, John Owen and Peter Barnes were among those who made the trip to Wales, as well as Young Independence members Matt Young and Lee Sibley.
The atmosphere was great as the votes came in, with UKIP looking very strong indeed as the first wards reported their results. The final voting numbers saw UKIP in 3rd place, with both Labour and Conservatives losing vote share. UKIP can be proud that Neil Hamilton secured 8.6% of the vote, an increase of 6% on the party’s result in the 2017 General Election.
