THIS IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM UKIP GLOUCESTERSHIRE
UKIP is to stage a counter protest to the demonstration being organised by Gloucestershire Liberal Democrats and the Remainer group Glostays in support of a so called People’s Vote which is due to take place outside Shire Hall in Westgate Street, Gloucester on Wednesday 12 th September at 9.30 am.
The Remain demonstration is to back a motion tabled at Wednesday’s Full Council Meeting by the Lib Dem Opposition Group on Gloucestershire County Council calling for “the Government finally to listen to the will of the people” since ” the British public are increasingly demanding a people’s vote on the terms of our departure from the EU.”
Commented Richard Ford, the UKIP Parliamentary Candidate for Gloucester :- ” This is pretty low – even by the standards of the Lib Dems. Not content with having propped up the Tories in David Cameron’s Government, with having reneged on the promise of free tuition fees to hundreds of thousands of young people and with having assisted the Tories with the pernicious Bedroom Tax, for which Martin Horwood the LibDem MP for Cheltenham voted in favour, the Lib Dems are now seeking to reverse the mandate of the EU Referendum 2016 at which a clear majority of the people of both Gloucestershire and of the UK voted to leave the European Union.
We had a people’s vote on 23rd June 2016 and despite the claims of the LibDems to the contrary the people of Gloucestershire knew what they were voting for. No amount of weasel words or mental somersaults by the Lib Dems and their ilk will change that fact.
It is absolutely outrageous that the Lib Dems are now seeking to overturn the verdict of the electorate in this shameful fashion, and I trust that the people of Gloucestershire will take the earliest possible opportunity available to them, whether at a snap General Election or at next May’s District Council elections in the Cotswolds, Tewkesbury and the Forest of Dean to show the Lib Dems and their fellow travellers in the Green, Labour and Conservative Parties what they think of this arrogant refusal to obey the will of the people. There is only one party 100% committed to Brexit in Gloucestershire, and that is UKIP.”
